UISAC was founded in 2006 in response to the growing and increasingly diverse population within the Charlotte-metro area. Charlotte is now home to individuals from over 83 countries, including more than 6,000 refugees, with a steadily increasing elderly population among them.

Upholding shared values of equity and dignity

Upholding shared values of equity and dignity means committing to fairness, respect, and inclusion in every interaction and decision. It recognizes the inherent worth of every individual, regardless of background, identity, or circumstance. By promoting equity, we strive to remove barriers and provide equal opportunities so everyone can thrive. Upholding dignity ensures that people are treated with compassion, listened to without prejudice, and valued for their contributions.

Remaining nonpartisan

Remaining nonpartisan means maintaining neutrality and fairness by avoiding alignment with any political party, ideology, or interest group. It emphasizes objectivity, integrity, and decision-making guided by evidence, ethics, and the public good rather than political pressure. By remaining nonpartisan, trust and credibility are preserved, diverse viewpoints are respected, and collaboration across differences is encouraged, allowing initiatives and actions to serve all people equally and responsibly.

Building trusted coalitions

Building trusted coalitions involves bringing together diverse individuals and organizations around shared goals, mutual respect, and open communication. It requires transparency, active listening, and a commitment to collaboration. By fostering trust and understanding, coalitions can leverage collective strengths, bridge differences, and address complex challenges more effectively. Strong, trusted partnerships enhance cooperation, encourage shared responsibility, and create sustainable solutions that benefit communities and stakeholders alike.

Accurately representing community voices

Accurately representing community voices means actively listening to diverse perspectives and ensuring they are reflected honestly in decisions, policies, and actions. It involves inclusive engagement, respect for lived experiences, and clear communication. By centering community input, organizations can better understand real needs, build trust, and create solutions that are relevant and effective. Authentic representation empowers individuals, strengthens accountability, and ensures outcomes align with the values and priorities of the communities being served.
